Did you mean a spirit without restraints(carefree spirit)? Or an independent, capable spirit? If you're after the independent context then Redwolf's translation is a good one to follow. The Irish language is often very poetic and sometimes words need to be analyzed to find the correct meaning.

I've seen - spiorad saor - given for this, but perhaps Redwolf's suggestion would be more meaningful to an Irish speaker.

Another that springs to mind is "Spiorad/Anam gan srian."

I have reservations about "Spiorad saor," because in addition to meaning "free," "saor" can mean "cheap."

If you qualified 'saor' with ó - spiorad saor ó bhuaireamh, would that work? I was thinking of the expression sans souci - free from all care/carefree. There's also - intinn neamhbhuarta, bheith gan cúram, gan cheangal.
