I've been looking around Baile 'n Fheirtéaraigh on streetview and I see that the bar attached the Óstán Ceann Sibéal is called An Bhuailtín. This is said to be the original name for the village and it means - The Little Dairy Place, but could anybody explain how and why it means what it does?

It's the diminutive of "buaile", I guess.

According to Wingléacht Buailtín and Buaile can have the same meaning -

Buaile - a milking place in summer pasturage.

Buailtín - a (small) milking place. Also a threshing place.

but Buaile also has the meaning of an enclosure or small grazing field.
And I think that is the meaning that our local Buaile had - a paddock for cattle.

It's all more or less the same thing. A small place to keep cattle enclosed.
