I have been reading this forum for awhile, in terms of translation you are doing a fine service to the part time geailgeoirs around. So now in my hour of need ive turned the one place i can find help!

I understand its generally words, phrases and sayings posted and i hope im not being cheeky with a few sentences. Anyway here goes, the pogues/shane macgowan = my heroes and ive been trying to get this part of his song 'rainy night in soho' translated they are;

I'm not singing for the future
I'm not dreaming of the past
I'm not talking of the first time
I never think about the last

Any help would be spot on,

Here's a very rough, very literal first attempt:

Ní ar son na todhchaí 'táim ag canadh "I'm not singing for the future"
Ní ar an am 'tá thart 'táim ag cuimhneamh "I'm not dreaming of the past"
Ní faoin gcéad uair 'táim ag caint "I'm not talking of the first time"
Ní smaoiním ar an uair dhéanach riamh "I never think about the last"

Is fearr Gaeilge ḃriste ná Béarla cliste, cinnte, aċ i ḃfad níos fearr aríst í Gaeilge ḃinn ḃeo na nGaeltaċtaí.
Gaeilge Chonnacht (GC), go háraid Gaeilge Chois Fhairrge (GCF), Gaeilic Uladh (GU), Gaelainn na Mumhan (GM), agus Gaeilge an Chaighdeáin Oifigiúil (CO).

Should that be 'deireanach'?

I think both work in this case - den uair dhéanach is "for the last time"

That's really interesting; I didn't know that déanach could be used for that.
