I have a bit of a creative question for you. I am opening up a school out of my home to teach children many of the subjects that are no longer taught in public schools. A rebirth of old wisdom in crafts and home practices such as cooking and cleaning, gardening, bee keeping, painting, coloring, singing, storytelling, outdoor free-play, nature walks...
...and I wanted to have a name that reflected the spirit of what I'm trying to do. Sinead's album, Sean Nos Nua immediatly lit up as a superb title, but it may be difficult for people to remember because of it's length and because it isn't in English. Ultimately I'd like to know if there is a simple translation for the concept of a rebirth of knowledge, or a celebration of learning and/ or wisdom.

Hello.

There are lots if words in Irish that go beyond a simple sense of knowledge, or eolas; the following list of words have connotations of high-knowledge, or supernatural knowledge.

gaois, saíocht, eagna 'wisdom'

Éigse 'poetic knowledge/ learned-knowledge'

Fáth 'prophetic/ mystic knowledge, wise'

Iomas intuition, knowledge that enlightens, all encompassing knowledge, mantic knowledge/ fore-knowledge/ prophetic knowledge, supernatural knowledge, poetic knowledge; this word derives from Old Irish imbas (<(imb-ḟiuss), and is used to describe the mantic knowledge of poets.

Fios 'second-sight', prophetic knowledge (basically the same as iomas, but can also be used to refer to general mundane knowledge also, eolas.

I would recommend something like:

Scoil Feasa (feasa is the genitive form of fios)

Its a nice play on the

Bean Feasa who were /are women of Irish folklore who possessed prophetic and supernatural knowledge.

saíocht is the right spelling -- a bit stupid since the original noun is "saoi"... the old spelling was more logical: saoi > saoidheacht

Fáidh is 'prophet', 'seer'

I should have been more clear. I meant fáth- as an adjectival suffix.

Hence something like,
Fáth-scoil 'wise/ prophetic school'.
