Dia duit gach duine, an-áthas orm go bhfuil fuair an áit iontach agus ar na féidearthachtaí bualadh le cairde nua a bhfuil spéis acu sa Ghaeilge agus gach rud Gaelach! I am a second generation Irish-American, I have always been so grateful and proud of the more "typical Irish traits" of my family: the wit, the charm, the humor, the wisdom, the wonderful stories, the tearful old songs, the enduring grace, beauty, decency, cleverness, generosity and strength of character they all possess, fills me with grá teaghlaigh agus bród! I wish the exquisite Irish language had not been all but lost here in the US, but I understand the dire need of those fleeing the Famine, to assimilate as quickly as possible in order to find employment and feed their families. I owe it to my ancestors to keep our language alive, besides I just am fascinated and enchanted with Gaelic! Please have patience, as I am a beginner. I have started on my own, searching the internet and practicing with friends from Ireland. I would really appreciate any site/book/class suggestions, etc., for a place to learn the basics properly. ...looking forward happily to this experience...
