Hello! I am making a wedding gift for two friends who both have various Celtic ancestry. Her grandmother hails from County Limerick, and he's got ties to the same county, as well as some Scottish heritage. I've hand carved a quaich, and I intend to attach strips of their tartans and my and my fiancee's tartan to the handles. I want to translate a dedication into Gaeilge. I'm not sure on the correct dialect - whichever would be spoken in Limerick, I suppose.

"May the tartans bound here always find this quaich full of love - and whiskey."

The exact words aren't as important as the concept. If there's a more expressive way to get the message across, that's great!

Thank you for your assistance.

Ireland doesn't have tartans. This sounds more like something for Scottish Gaelic.

Every county in Ireland has an official tartan, as do some Irish families. I have also found a word for it (from focloir.ie - which claims to be an Irish-English dictionary): breacán. I understand that it is conceptually a transposition - that's what I'm after.

A quaich or - cuach - is usually considered to be Scottish rather than Irish, though obviously that wouldn't stop you from putting an inscription in Irish Gaelic on the one you have made, if you wanted to.

Yes, precisely - trying to integrate the two heritages.

I'll give it a shot. Why not, eh?

Go bhfaightear an cuach seo síorlíonta le grá is le fuisce
(May this goblet be found ever filled with love and whiskey)

Go líontar an cuach seo le grá is le fuisce roimh lucht na mbreacán seo
(May this goblet be filled with love and whiskey to those of these tartans)

As always please wait for feedback!

I will wait for some confirmation, but that you for taking a shot at it. Both of these capture the sentiment I was looking for.
