Dia daoibh, is mise Serena!

Certainly hoping I said that alright! I'm a musician located in the States, and I'm simply obsessed with Celtic folk tunes. I've been interested in Irish culture since I was a teen learning about my heritage (half English and the rest quite a mix), and I've been to Irish music and heritage festivals over the years. About eight months ago I thought it'd be a fun challenge(!) to learn the language, though it's been difficult to find good, reliable resources and anyone to practice with! Full disclosure: I didn't come across this forum until I recently decided to get a new tattoo and wanted it to be in this beautiful language, but accurately translated. I've been lurking about for a bit, but figured it was time to register properly and just, well, ask! I look forward to learning a lot here - and perhaps getting some help translating some tunes into Irish to include in set lists!

Cheers,

Serena

Greetings all, I'm an Irish American and looking to improve upon the Irish I've learned growing up. I'm also trying to track down episodes of the T.V. series C.U. Burn as it's no longer on TG4's website. If anyone could help with this and send a PM it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! I remember the show...I don't know about full episodes, but at least some is available on YouTube.

Thanks for the welcome. :) It's my favorite of the TG4 productions, I really think it's one of the funniest television series ever made. Unfortunately only episode 1 and half of episode 2 are on Youtube. It re-aired as recently as 2013 and was on the TG4 website for streaming, I didn't download it because the show was originally 4:3 and it had been cropped to 16:9. I wish they would consider DVD releases for their shorter run shows, it only ran for 15 episodes and one Christmas special. I understand why Ros na Rún doesn't make sense to release that way, but it could be crammed into one DVD boxset.

Hi,

My name is Jason. I'm curious about the Irish language and history as well. My last name is Murphy and I want to learn more about the name. Also, I would like to learn about translation of English to Irish for a future tattoo.

Thanks

....so sorry... I start in the worst way.... I post a new message instead make here a reply... :bash: :bash: :stoning:
here my message:

Hi everyone!
My name is Simona, I'm 42 yo and I'm Italian.
First of all, sorry for my terrible English!
Like Owen, I have to be completely honest with you: I'm looking for a tattoo translation...I don't want hurt anyone: I respect your great knowledge!!!
Here in Italy we have lots of wonderful dialects, very different from north to south, but all great and full of history, and tradition, and culture.
Most of them are dying   :( :( only aged people use them, in schools and family children only speak "italian", there's no space (and place) for our origin and culture.... it's terrible...
For me your work is wonderful!!!
Thank you so much!!!
Ciao!
Simona

For speakers of Italian, Keltia Editrice have published a 'Grammatica e Dizionario del Gaelico d'Irlanda - con CD Fonetica' 978 8 8739 2057 1 (www.keltia.it) - There are a number of websites that give information about Irish Language and Culture in Italian, but it would be too long to list them here.

The Irish form of Murphy is Ó Murchadha, meaning essentially "descendant of the sea warrior". Another Anglicized form of the name is Morchoe.

As Bríd suggested, if you have additional questions or want other translations, please start a thread for each one in the main part of the forum, with a subject heading keyed to what you want, so that you attract attention to your request. Please keep each request on its own thread, so that all of the comments will be kept together. You can alwasy add to the thread by using the "reply" button.
