dia daoibh,

Ba mhaith liom "The two of them thought it would be easier to question a family the already knew" a rá .

Rinne mé mo dhícheall é a aistriú.

"Cheap an bheirt acu go mbeadh sé níos easca ceisteanna a chur ar theaghlach a bhfuil aithne acu orthu cheana féin"

"a bhfuil" is right. What I wonder, is if you'd say "aithne acu ORTHU" or "aithne acu AIR" ; teaghlach is singular, but there are several people... (sometimes both are possible actually)

Couldn't you just avoid it by saying "ar a bhfuil aithne acu"?

Since it is past tense, I think it should be "a raibh" instead of "a bhfuil" . Also since "orthu" is used I would opt for "ar theaghlaigh"
