Hi there.
I was recently at the CELT DIAS Tionól event and there were three lads from the States who presented on a new project that will be hosted at (the now not yet online) leamh.org, that will be a resource for those learning to read early modern, bardic (and I think) some Middle Irish.

They demonstrated it and it had the texts, plus background information and grammar points. They would be looking for people when it goes live to proof read and add to the corpus of supporting materials on it. I would say it might interest one or two people here.

The fellow I spoke to was Wes Hamrick and it sounds like a few people here might get value out of it.

This website references it:

While there are many resources available for learning Modern and Old Irish, there are no comparable materials for learning Early Modern Irish, the written form of the language used from roughly 1200-1650. There is no comprehensive grammar, no guide to translation and interpretation, and no dictionary.

At last!!!! These lads have it right on the button! :good: :good: :good:

To use a some Hiberno-English, I'll proofread the hole out of it!

By the way, if I'm right, 'Wes H.' is the man I was talking about :)

You need to get up to a certain number of posts before private messages can be sent.

I also emailed CELT DIAS for you email address, but Éibhlín said she was away for a few days. Anyway, Mr Blackbird is your man :)

Hi, Jay Bee, a friend pointed me to this forum and to your post about our project, Léamh: Learn to Read Early Modern Irish. It was great to meet you in Dublin. Regretfully, I didn't have an email for you and wasn't able to find you online. Until now!

Anyhow, we were able to get some of the institutional support that we needed and it looks like the ball is rolling on the project. We're hoping to have the website up and running, in some form, sometime next year, but we're already in the process of getting the actual website built and so forth (those were just wire frames we showed at the Tionól).

I'd be grateful if you dropped me a line so that I could keep you and others in the loop. My email is wes.hamrick@nuigalway.ie ("Business inquiries only, please." :darklaugh: )

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to checking out the forums here. I seem to recognize a few names/faces from the old Daltaí Boards.

:GRMA:

Wes,
it was great to meet you too and am glad you have found this place. I know of one other fellow who might be able to help, but he's very enigmatic, lives in the mountains, and if I can get hold of him, he might contribute too :)

Don't worry, I won't spam you with any 'products'
