during the week = i rith na seachtaine

the first week = an chéad seachtain

during the first week = i rith na / an ??? :panic:

i rith na chéad sheachtaine

I think its the only example in Irish where lenition follows na.

wait for some more input.

At least for Munster Irish, all the ordinals (chéad, tarna, tríú,...) are unaffected by any mutations:

sa ceathrú rang
ar an cúigiú baile
na chéad laethanta

however back in the 19th century they were affected, for example Críost Mac Dé (Peadar Ua Laoghaire) p.21:

peaca na céad mhná = sin of the first woman = Eve's sin.

right but I wouldn't lenite "seachtaine" because of the dentals' rules:
i rith/le linn na chéad seachtaine.

Seriously, is there ANYONE alive who understands the numbers? Maybe the man who lives alone in the house of the dual genitive

Well wherever they are, I've never met them. A passage from "Coiglímis an Tine":

cheithre ghráinne...

cheithre punnana....

dhá iothlainn
cheithre n-iothlann
hocht n-iothlann
sé n-iothlann déag
dhá n-iothlann déag

dhá bharúntacht
cheithre mbarúntacht....

When we were in Corca Dhuibhne as part of a college trip, they got an old speaker from the region to talk to us. He used to eclipse after four as well.

The only real number rule as far as I can see is that dhá usually lenites and trí-sé usually lenite the singular. In Kerry there's a tendency to eclipse words beginning with c and b.
