I read to use this codes for the different Irish areas...so what is Leinster? Is that standard?

(GC) for Connacht Irish;
(GM) for Munster Irish;
(GU) for Ulster Irish;
(CO) for standard Irish; or
(SL) for old spelling (sean-litriú).

Sorry for the stupid question, but I want to understand....

Leinster Irish has disappeared decades ago, it has no native speaker left. The people who speak Irish in Leinster are either learners or native speakers from other areas.

So....I think I will learn the dialect which is the easiest for me.

That's what most people do (learners outside of Ireland, that is), unless they have some kind of personal connection to a particular part of the country.

There is no 'Leinster' dialect, nor was there ever, as such. It, and others like it, are just terms for speech varience over space.

Also, the dialects, none of them are easy, and most who start will fail, so there is no point in being optimistic

Back to the topic of a distinct Leinster Irish, maybe Lon Dubh knows more. We had a thread a long time ago about old, dead dialects. There was some talk about a 'supraregional' dialect where Connachta and Laighin were broadly similar
