Dhia Dhuit!

I have recently gotten into home brewing and am designing labels for my results. I have decided to use Connan mac Kerry as the name for my "brewery" as my name is Conan and my father was Kerry. So, my first question is, is that correct usage?

Secondly, would anyone be so kind to provide best effort translations for the following brew names? (I fully understand that not all the words will exist)

  • Unicorn Blood Cider - a nice mixture of Cherry and apple spiced with a bit of cloce and cinnamon
  • Dragon's Blood Mead - Mead made with Sorrell, ginger, mace, allspice, clove, vanilla bean, and lemon and orange peel
  • Szechuan Mead - Orange blossom honey with Szechuan peppercorns for a sweet/spicy taste.
  • Herbal Ginger Mead - Pretty much as described
  • Caramel Apple Pie Cider - Slightly sweet spiced cider

Anyone care to help out with some suggestions?

~Conan

Hi Conan, where are you based? If you are based in Ireland, there are grants available for businesses that use Irish signage so it's worth investigating. If you are not based in Ireland, sorry! Wait for the more learned to translate your challenging request.

I wish I was based in Ireland. Sadly, I am in Connecticut, USA. I also will not be doing this as a business, merely enjoying the fruits of my labors and giving bottles away as gifts. I just think having a name and a label would be fun

Thanks mate. Will wait for "the rule of 3" but I'll start teaching myself to pronounce these.

Further research seems to indicate that Cónán mac Chiarraí would be a more correct Irish translation of Conan, son of Kerry. Thoughts?

You can hear most of these words being pronounced on the Teanglann.ie online dictionary as well as on the associated Foclóir.ie - there's also Forvo where you can hear Irish speakers pronounce vocabulary.

It would be fun; you're right. Best of luck. :good:

The "Mac" should be capitalized too.

"Ciarraí" is the name of the county in Ireland, but I don't think it's used as a person's name. Others here may know better.

Kerry isn't used as a first name in Ireland either. But I think it's fairly common in America to use Irish surnames and other sources as first names. So I think "Cónán Mac Chiarraí" would be ok.

The surname "Mac Kerry" is "Ó Maoilchéire" but that wouldn't be appropriate as "Kerry" is the father's first name I assume.

I'll leave the translations, I'm not good at double genitives :D
