This is for Gearmánach - Kirsten. Perhaps you would like to have a look at this website.

http://www.braesicke.de/gaeilge.htm - Über die Irische Sprache

You don't say where you are in Germany, but if you have a look at the Irish Embassy in Berlin website, they have a monthly diary of Irish events and cultural activities that take place across Germany. For instance there are pubs in Berlin that host Irish-speaking groups and there's at least one blog in Irish by an Irish Berliner. Conradh na Gaeilge Bheirlín are on Facebook.

I don't know what book you have, but searching on-line I've found these -

Kauderwelsch Irisch-Gälisch Wort für Wort 978 38941 6797 4 (2013)
and the CD - 978 3 8317 6003 9

Irisch für Anfänger 978 3 8754 8574 5

Wörterbuch Irisch-Deutsch 978 8754 8124 2

The Learning Irish coursebook by Mícheál O'Siadhail has been published in German - Lerhbuch der Irischen Sprache and is still available second-hand 978 3 8754 8029 0, but strangely the latest edition with two CDs (2012) - 978 3 8754 8654 4 - isn't available.

Dia d´huit! Conas atá tú! ;)

Good morning/afternoon,

I´m new on this foro and I have just started to learn Irish Gaelic! - Something I always wanted to
do although I never dared :) Well, after a fews days I am still struggling with Dia d´huit 8-)

I found this forum and thought it would be helpful to clarify doubts and questions .. so I´ll keep you busy :D

I will study the Munster dialect ( as the book I have recommends so) but I do not know
if this is a good or bad advice? Anyway, I´ll try and see :)

Slán!
Genin

Dia daoibh. Noël is ainm dom. Tá brón orm, níl mórán Gaeilge agam. Is foghlaimeoir nua mé.
(Please feel free to correct me if that's mangled!)

My grandmother's family was from Athgarven, near Newbridge in Kildaire, Ireland. My father took us to Irish festivals here in the US, back when I was growing up, and fond memories of the music let me to become a (NOT astoundingly talented, and actually pretty rusty at the moment) player of traditional dance music on the tin whistle. Back when I attended to my first tin whistle class, there were people there also learning Irish. I distinctly remember thinking, "Wow, that's pretty cool, too bad I'll never be that into my Irish roots." Later, hearing vs. attempting to read Irish tune names in Irish was enough to keep me frightened of the language for years.

So what happened? Duolingo, which led to library books, which I neglected, but Duolingo captured me again, and one late night I hunted down a couple of book/CD sets due to severe grammar cravings. I've lurked here here for a bit before speaking up, and I take the Duolingo issues under advisement for sure. But the darn thing has gotten me back on track when life conspired to derail me.

For that matter, I suspect I'll want to upgrade my books as soon as my budget recovers (it took an unexpected hit this weekend). But I'll talk more about that in its own thread, another day. It's getting late here, so I'm not getting any smarter the longer I type.
