American Irish learners! The application period for the 2015 Gaeltacht Summer Awards through the Fulbright Commission is now open! If you're a U.S. citizen who is either a student or a teacher of Irish, you can apply for a grant that will pay for up to six weeks of study on a Gaeltacht course (including tuition and lodging).

The application period closes on February 27, and it can take a while to assemble the necessary documentation and to prepare your proposal, so if you're interested, you'll want to contact them asap to get the forms.

I spent four weeks in Donegal courtesy of a Gaeltacht Summer Award in 2013, and am happy to answer any questions you might have about the program.

Information on the awards and contact information to request the application forms can be found here: http://www.fulbright.ie/gaeltacht-summer-award

I don't know, but it might be worth contacting them and asking. If there's nothing through Fulbright, it's possible there's something though some other organization. I know there's one in Canada, but it's only for students at particular universities.

Redwolf,

You are so right, the Fulbright Commission is here but it closed for 2015 for Aust citizens. It seems that the destination has to be USA for study. Although American citizens can still apply this year and come to Australia. Care to set up a class over here? Will look for more sources.

thanks,
JulieA

Yeah. The Fulbright is something sponsored by the American government and the host country. It's basically to foster mutual exchanges, so, unless you're American, the only country you'll be able to go to is America.
