I am new to the forum.... please pardon any errors.

I am looking to use the Irish Gaelic Language to do a series of Counted Cross Stitch pictures in my home.
I don't know the specifics you have asked us to post with our request for assistance.

The words will be written with the Ogham lettering.

These words are "about" me.

Peace (examples: a peaceful soul, a quiet heart)

Eternal love (examples: love to be given, unfailing love, never ending love)

Happiness (examples: contentment in my soul)

Freedom (examples: free to choose my path)

Strength (examples: brave, energy, moving)

I hope this makes sense.... if not please ask questions.

I am starting a new path in my life.... alone.... I need words like these to stand out to me.
By putting them into the Ogham Lettering.... they will be a secret mantra to just me.

Thank you...

Tina

I've indicated in red below the most common modern Irish translations for the words you want (some words can be translated differently, depending on context). I assume you know that Ogham was only used for Old Irish, and generally only for names, rather than other expressions (though there may have been other uses for which evidence hasn't survived). Ogham doesn't always work well with modern Irish words, because the language has changed over time (as all languages do). In case what you meant to ask for was one of the traditional fonts used in writing Irish until 60 or so years ago, I've included that as well. If you really do want Ogham letters, someone else here may be able to help you get close to what you want.

Thank you.... CaoimhínSF

So far the words you have given me are the same ones I have been finding on some other sites... but I wanted to make sure.

As for the Ogham.... I like the secret look of the lines. Yes, I know it is not a very old font and to some it is a "made up" way of writing.

But I have a old soul and love the way it looks and allows it to speak only to me. So it is for design more than anything else.

Though as I look at the font I am finding two versions.
The lettering is slightly different - Beth-Luis-Nion and Beth-Luis-Fearn.

Would anyone know which one is correct?

Thank you so much.
Tina

Er...Ogham is actually VERY old. And it's not a "font"...it's an entirely different writing system. That said, it was never used to write anything more complicated than a grave marker, so much of it has had to be recreated. And most Irish speakers don't know how to write it, as Irish has been written using the Roman alphabet for most of its history as a written language.

I think for the "peace" you're looking for, I'd go with "suaimhneas" (inner peace/tranquility). "Síocháin" is more "peace" as in the absence of war.

Wait for more.

Thank you RedWolf. I appreciate the education on the Ogham writing system. I intend to use the word separately as single items not phrases.

If it is too difficult then I may use a different lettering system.

Yes, that's a good idea. I hadn't focused on the explanation you gave.

Regarding the Ogham alphabet, probably this site would help: http://nuacht1.com/ogham/

Though it obviously doesn't have equivalents for accented letters (á, ó, í etc.)
