Back in the mid twenties to early thirties the Irish Government in conjunction with the publisher GÚM had set up a program of paying authors to translate English Classics to Irish. This was an attempt to increase the number of Irish Language readers. Among the authors involved were Séamus Ó Grianna, Pádraic Ó Conaire, Seósamh Ó Grianna and others. Anybody know what books were translated and if any of them are still available?
I have the 1933 edition of Scéal fá Dhá Chathair by Charles Dickens translated by Seán Mac Maoláin published by GÚm and printed by Cahills of Parkgate St. Dublin
