Hmm now you guys are making me more torn haha. I like that font because it makes the letters look like peaks but like the vertical design of ogham. I was just going to have one line of it down my side under my arm. I already know about what the highest peaks looks like and info about them but thank you for the links. I really just want someone to sketch or show me proper ohgam for beanna beola or 12 pinns. I was linked a translation website but it makes some of the marks oddly compared to what I learned and it shows below. Thanks for all the help you guys have given me!!

Is this what you're after? (read from bottom up):

That's exactly what I was thinking but one question, isn't there supposed to be an X in there? How did you translate

You mean the x-shaped character representing 'ea' which appears in the other version?
You can use it if you wish. Seperate characters are far more usual though.

Separate is more common? That's good cause I think it looks a little nicer. If anyone could confirm this then I will probably be taking it to an artist soon to add a little detail too. Thanks for the help, more input and help is still welcome!!

:good: I've always known it as Na Beanna Beola with na out in front. Bríd lives just up the road from there, so she'd have a good knowledge of it too. Older books also confirm this form, meaning "The Peaks of Beola".

For some strange reason, logainm.ie gives only Beanna Beola without the article, but such as the vagaries of officialdom.:dhera:

I've never seen Beanna na Beola, myself, and it feels incorrect to me, but I might be persuaded differently with some hard evidence to the contrary. :??:

The following is not ogham, but it might have more bearing on the modern Irish:

na Beanna Beola

Just another option to consider - but of course ogham is cool in its own way. ;)

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

I appreciate all this great input! I really like both ideas now and that font is awesome with the mountain tops. I'm going to have am artist draw up the ogham better then consider. More input is still welcome! I'm trying not to rush into my first tattoo

where on the body would you be putting it?

I don't think that the ea in Modern Irish represents the same sound that it did in Old Irish. And Murchadh's point about separate characters being used is important. The forfeda were medieval additions and, I might be wrong but I don't think I am, have only ever been found on one maybe two actual monuments otherwise they only appear in manuscripts. You've probably seen the stone in books. This is the only actual monument I am aware of, though.

See this amazing site for more, Ogham 3D Project http://ogham.celt.dias.ie/

Now that being said, which one you pick is a personal choice. You should just be informed in making it. Without the X like character would be more "traditional" but with the X might look more attractive.

Let me chime in on Jay Bee's question, where would you be getting it? Because I might have something that could make your choices even harder...

I'm loving all this input! And I just recently made a deal with a buddy who is also getting a tattoo that we will get them over Christmas break when we both get back from college. I will be getting in on my right side kind of underneath where your arm lays if it's by your side. And make my choice harder, I love this forum and it's help!! I have a while to decide and finalize my decision. Thanks as always,
Tyler
