My boyfriend is working on a design for a tattoo and wants this saying in Gaelic. I am having a hard time finding a translation online.

Also, I have found the saying two ways and not sure which is right for the actual saying:

"I'd Rather Swallow a pint of Blood then an ounce of Pride"

"I'd Rather cough up a qt of Blood than swallow an oz of pride."

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Sayings do not always translate literally into another language, so you may end up having to work with something which approximates what you want. However, here is a fairly literal translation, but do wait for other suggestions or corrections, and we advise getting at least three people to agree on something before you do anything permanent:

B'fhearr liom pionta fola a shlogadh [siar] ná unsa bróid.
I'd rather swallow [down] a pint of blood than an ounce of pride.

The word siar isn't crucial. It makes it "swallow down", but I think it helps the rhythm, at least when the phrase is spoken. Wait to see what the more fluent speakers say about what sounds best.
