Hello all, My name is Thomas. I have been interested in learning the Irish language for some time. In part, this is because half of my ancestors came fom Ireland at some point. I also find it an intriguing language and quite different from my native English.
I didn't really know where to start on the learning process, but I figured that by joining an Irish language forum or two, I could eventually find my way.
That being said, I have NO knowledge of the language except a few greetings I have leaned in my research. I hope that wil all change at some point. :)
I am grateful that this forum is here and I hope to compare notes (and conversation) with you all at some point in the future!

Thanks for the warm(?) welcome. :)
I will end up asking a lot of questions at some point, so be forewarned!

Dia dhuit!

Hello everyone, my name is Michelle. I just recently started learning Irish. I am half Irish and it always upset me that I am completely immersed in my Italian half and speak Italian fluently, but not my Irish half.

So I started my quest to be more immersed in my Irish side by visited Ireland. I fell in love and became fascinated with the language (sad it is spoken so little). I have been to Italy many times, but when I was in Ireland I felt at peace. It might sound crazy, but non the less, it is true. For this reason I have decided to dedicate most of my free time to learning the language.

So far I have learned the basics through Rosetta Stone. I know some people hate it, but it has been helping me a bit. I do however realize that this alone will not bring me to my desired goal of being close to fluent in Irish. Therefore this forum seemed to be a great place for me to join. I hope to learn a lot from you all =]

Welcome, Michelle. I have just started learning, also. You have come to the right place. :) There is a wealth of information here and plenty of good folks to answer any questions you may or to offer advice.
