We're doing an anthem for Lessons and Carols this year that's based on a Manx carol and has a phrase in Manx in it: "Oikan Ayns Bethlehem" (which supposedly means "Born in Bethlehem"). The composer is Indian, and the phonetics he supplied really aren't very clear. Can anyone out there show me (perhaps using Irish phonics) how this should be pronounced?

"Ayns" I would think has the same pronunciation as the Irish "ins"? as in "in", its just missing the article.

No, I know a bit of Manx and most words aren't pronounced as they are spelt nor as their Irish or Scottish equivalent is pronounced... And some words have several pronunciations too.
Btw Emma Christian has recorded that song on an album. I can send you the mp3 to you if you like, I think she pronounces properly.

That would be wonderful, if you don't mind. The one time we sing in a Celtic language, I'd like us to at least get it in the ballpark, and I have no idea if Mr. Singh's phonetics are at all close (he may have it spot-on, but I'd rather check). My email address is audreyunderscorenickelatyahoodotcom.
