I had been on Irish Gaelic Translator and gotten this translation a while back. It is a personal prayer. I just simply want to validate it. I have someone who is going to make a sound file for me to learn to say it. Go raibh maith agat, in advance.


Moladh don Athair, a choimeádann mé neartmhar.
A fhanann liom agus a thugann sólás dom i rith an lae.
Go raibh ár gcaidhleadh le d'fhocal; Go gcluine na cluasa go léir.
Tabhair sólás dom's baigh iomlán m'eagla.
Coimeád slán mé, a Thiarna.
Beannaigh an t-iomlán a dtuagim grá dóibh.
Iarraim ort ar an mhaithiúnas nach dtéann ach ón taobh thuas amhain.
Go raibh maith agat as do mhac, a Thiarna.
Go dtuga sé dom aspalóid i mo pheacaí.
Ní ghuifidh mé choíche ach in ainm Críostaí amháin. Áiméan.

Looks like there are some problems with that translation (and definitely some inaccuracies) - as pennyrat says, best to post the English version for comparison.

I actually did the first stab at that on the "old site", and the version which has been posted above is the end result, after some grammar/spelling corrections from gumbi, scooby, and Bodhránbob. You can view the old exchange here:

"Praise the Father, who keeps me strong. Who stays with and comforts me all the day long. Let your word rain down. Let all ears hear. Comfort me in sorrow and drown all my fear. Please keep me safe, Lord. Bless all that I love. I beg for forgiveness that only comes from above. Thank you for your son, Lord. Let him absolve my sin. Only in Christ's name will I ever pray. a dtuagim is a typo.

in ainm Críostaí means in the name of a Christian.

I don't really have a lot of time now, but there are many ways of defining and translating 'strength', for example.


You could start like this:

Moladh don Athair a choimeádann tréan mé,
a bhronnann orm sólás i rith gach lae (or: a dheonaíonn dom sólás...)


or

Moladh don Athair a thugann neart dom,
a thugann dom sólás is é (É?) de shíor liom

I would say a bhronnann sólás orm i rith gach

And for the next part

a thugann sólás dom

But you know what you're talking about; is this common in prayers? I just find the ordering strange.

Regarding the position of the preposition ('a thugann dom sólás'), it just seemed better to me in a poetic sort of way! Now I'm not so sure. I don't even know if it can be done, but something in the back of my mind says it can - a poem I read before perhaps.

Can someone please post the English translation. I'm having trouble getting the gist of the whole prayer.

Indeed it is. I originally had a thugaim, which got corrected to a dtugaim, but then when the OP put it all together he/she transposed the "a" and the "g", and I didn't notice that.
