Regarding the context in which it was given, this occurred in a section featuring examples of Irish words to demonstrate pronunciation. It looks exactly like this:

leabhair /l'aur'/ (a book)

It is incorrect, then. Based on the pronunciation given, I'm thinking the Irish spelling is what's incorrect...it should be "leabhar."

:??: "Based on the pronunciation given" (i.e., slender r), I think it would be the _translation_ that is wrong. It should say "books". ;)

That "r" looks broad to me, but I don't know IPA, so I could be wrong.

I wish people would post sound files!

/r´/ represents the slender r. The symbol /´/ represents the slender form of each consonant in the Irish form of IPA.
