Hi. Im setting out to have some ink work done and would like to have a number of words and phrases translated from Irish to English, if some of you would be kind enough to help me. I am not sure of the dialect. All I know at this point is that my grandmothers maiden name was O'rearden and she was born in the town/village of Cork.

The list is as follows:

"Angels do leave footprints"
"I AM Free" (spelled correctly)
"I AM that I AM" (capitals are correct as saying is deeply spiritual)
"Unbound"
"Divine Love"
"Compassion"
"Forgiveness"
"Live your Truth"

That is all for now. I know I have a few more...just dont recall them at the moment.

Please be aware that we can't necessarily do these exactly as you want them, as Irish expresses things differently than English. In the example that kenailan gave you, for instance...in the Bible in Irish, God doesn't say I AM that I AM...he says literally "I am the one who is" (Is mé an te atá ann) Also, in Irish, you wouldn't emphasize something by capitalizing it, but by putting a special ending on it...so if you wanted to emphasize the "I am" part, it would be "Is mise an te atá ann."

I'm not sure what you mean by "spelled correctly" under "I am free." If you're referring to the capitalization, once again, it doesn't work that way in Irish. If you want to emphasize the "I am" part, it would become "Tá mise saor."

You should also know that Irish uses different verbs for "am" when you're describing a person's attributes ("I am free," for example, which requires "tá") and for saying what a person is ("I am God," for example, which requires "is"), so you won't have the word play I think you're going for.

We're happy to work with you on these, but you're going to have to be flexible and allow for the way the language expresses things.

Taise: Compassion ("Trua," which kenailan gave you, can also work, but it's closer in meaning to "pity.")

Thanks for your input. I apologize if there is/was any confusion from my original post. I do understand that exact translations are not always possible due to a language just simply not allowing it.

If Im not clear and concise with what im asking to be translated...then there is a chance that what Im asking will be misunderstood and be translated incorrectly. And when it comes to tattoos...theres no room for mistakes, especially with writing. Unless youre into paying alot of money to be burned over and over with a laser. In that case...to each there own. (lol)

I AM that I AM (as you may or may not already know) was the answer that GOD gave Moses on Mount Sinai when he asked "What is your name?" In english , the difference between I AM and I am is, one is considered to be the true name of GOD and the other is a lesser statement of being (in comparison). The capitalizing makes it absolute and infinate. Perhaps it is my fault for not being more clear and concise than what I originally thought I was being...thats what you get when you assume (ass u me)...lol

I was pretty much comming from the same angle with I AM free that I was with I AM that I AM. (absolute, name of GOD thing) But as things have turned out, It will not work with what Im having done..."I AM free".

We understood you perfectly. "Is mé an té atá ann?" is the answer God gives in the Irish translation of the Bible. Literally "I am the one who is."
