Hi everyone,

My name is Chris and I wondering if anyone could help with a translation for a tattoo I was hoping to get on my arm.

A few years ago unfortunately my Granddad past away from kidney failure and I was thinking of doing something to remember him. One of the last times I was able to see him he gave me some advice-
"In life always be the best you can be".

Now my granddad was a very proud Irishmen who loved cracking jokes and was one of those people who could make friends with every single person in a room. I thought by having this on my arm in Irish would be a good way of remembering him with an additional meaning only to me.

Any assistance would be a massive help.

Almost literally: Sa saol seo bí i gconaí chomh iontach is atá ar do chumas

Maybe more natural: Sa saol seo déan do sheacht ndícheall i gconaí
('...always do your very best')

Do NOT rush off and get this tattooed on you without confirmation from at least one other forum member ( you might have to give them a prod). Someone may offer an alternative, possibly better, version. The accents are important - there are three in both those versions).

I like this one. I will point out that there was an accent missing, as is so easy to do, and Errigal was correct to point out they are important!!

I like this one, but the copy editor in me would put a comma after the word "seo" (and, in fact, in the English I'd put a comma after "life")
