Wow, you guys are really helpful, it's kind of amazing.

Would it be expected that somebody named Máire would have their name pronounced differently in different parts of Ireland regardless of how they introduced themselves, or would people say the version that the particular Máire uses?

I've found English text-to-speech that pronounces all Irish names and words correctly, except Máire.

If you don't know how to pronounce it how do you know it's incorrect?
Give us a link and we'll see.

I can only speak for myself. But I'd say it in my own Conamara dialect. It would be a bit hard for us here to get our tongues around how they say it in Donegal :D . You can see from the TTs and from Lughaidh that there is a bit of a difference between those two dialects. The difference between Munster and Conamara is not as pronounced, at least when saying Máire.

Haha imagine a British person trying to call an American "Curtis" using Curtis's accent instead of his own hahahaha it would sound facetious

There's a Scottish Gaelic voice made by the same people, and it pronounces Irish names just like this 'Irish Accent English' one does, except Máire, which it pronounces with two syllables and a slender r.

That depends, some people are just really good with regional accents. I can change to any of the many American accents on a whim, and they're pretty varied. I'd never convince anyone I was British beyond a sentence, or Irish beyond a single word, of course. But since Ireland is a lot smaller than America I wondered if people there would have little trouble imitating regional differences.
