as a standalone word I'd prefer "dóibhsan"

I think this was a minor type o and what was intended was dóibhsean

For the OP's understanding, the difference between dóibh and dóibhsean is one of stress. With the word dóibh, the important part is "to them" as opposed to "from them" or "with them." With the word dóibhsean, on the other hand, the important part is "to them" as opposed to "to those other people" or "to me"

At least that's how I've understood it! But I could be wrong!

This sounds very close to what I was thinking! The emphasis specifically relating to those 3 people and no one else.

I very much appreciate all the suggestions! It's just that I'm not necessarily trying to say that I am proud of them (which I am most of the time ;) ), but just trying to say that they are the reason/inspiration/purpose for everything I do or have done (in my case, currently studying a stressful workload and kicking cancer's butt last year :LOL: )

Thanks again to you all. This really is important to me! :D

Perhaps - ar mhaithe le mo pháistí - or ar son mo pháistí/chlann, but wait for confirmation from the others.

Actually franc 91, now I know more specifically what these suggestions mean, I quite like it and glad it makes more sense than just "them"! Which one is better do you think? "ar mhaithe le" or "ar son" (mo pháistí) ?

Alternatively, I thought I could go with something like "My Children; my reason (or inspiration, or purpose etc). If "mo pháistí" means 'my children', could anyone give me the correct interpretations for 'my reason', 'my inspiration' and 'my purpose'. I could Google translate, but you are all much wiser!! :D

Hi again!

Just wondering if I could get verification on the following, please :)

m'fháth = my reason
m'cuspóir = my purpose
m'inspioráid = my inspiration

Sorry, I found all of those translations on another forum. I'm guessing they're wrong. Probably best that I just give it a miss. Thank you for your guidance :)

They're not necessarily wrong (okay the second one definitely is haha) -- no need to lose hope!
Just tell us exactly what you're thinking and we'll figure something out

Here are some thoughts:
Ar a son ("For their sake")
Ar son mo chlainne ("For the sake of my children")

Thank you for your kindness Cúmhaí ! :D I think between you and Labhrás you have cleared things up for me quite well :)

I wanted to say either "For the sake of my children", or pretty much "My children-my purpose". I actually quite like "mo chuspóir". Is that the grammatical form of cuspóir in this instance? (I just want to make sure it is perfect :) )

And may I just confirm one final thing: would pháistí be better to use as more specifically meaning 'children' rather than 'family'?

I am so grateful for all this help!!
