I am looking to get something in standard irish as a tattoo (just came back from a 2 week trip! Plus I have some older hertitage there) and just want to make sure its translated correctly, so that's when I found this site!

My first idea was to have something related to family, so that's why I started with that word.
If possible, what is the appropriate noun for the word "Hope" and the phrase "Have Hope", as well.

As far as single words for "family" go, you have plenty of choice! If you want to go that route, we can list them for you. Irish doesn't really have one single word that carries all the nuances that the English "family" can carry, so you will probably pick and choose.

As far as hope goes:

Hope: Dóchas

Have hope: Bíodh dóchas ort (this is kind of like an order)

Have hope: Go raibh dóchas ort (this is more like "may you have hope")
