Hi All,

Hoping that some fellow Irish folk with a better mastery of the mother tongue can perhaps aide me avoid inscribing a poorly chosen translation of a poem excerpt, as a tattoo. The excerpt/tattoo is to be as follows,

"Always remember, the hills ahead
Are never as steep as they seem"

Currently I am working with the following translation,

"Cuimhneamh i gcónaí, is iad na cnoic romhainn
riamh chomh géar mar is cosúil leo"

But sadly beyond, that I seek/need to defer to someone with a mastery "ag caint as Gaelige" to either refine or completely overhaul it. Any help will be much appreciated.

Cuimhnigh go deo nach bhfuil na cnoic (or na sléibhte) amach romhainn chomh géar is a cheapfá.
But I'd leave the "always remember" and "ahead of us" out completely. So -
Níl na sléibhte chomh géar is a cheapfá.
The mountains are not as steep as you might think.

If you want Hills use "na cnoic".

Wait for better suggestions and/or spelling corrections.

Tweaking, perhaps:

Cuimhnigh nach mbíonn na sléibhte amach romhat chomh géar is a cheapfá.

or

Ní bhíonn na sléibhte amach romhat chomh géar is a cheapfá.

If we were to use romhainn, I'd use a cheapfadh muid/a cheapfaimis
