Hi all - nice to meet everyone.

As the title implies - I need help with a Gaelic translation for a tattoo that I'm getting in the next couple of days - so just want to double check for quality control. I have done my best in trying to understand and translate myself - and this is what I've come up with.

The tattoo will be the following, 5 words, horizontally & separately (not a speech) down my arm in this order:

Fulaing - (endure)
Seiftigh - (improvise)
Oiriúnaím - (adapt)
Sáraigh – (Overcome/solve a problem)
Cinn – (Advance)

Can you guys please correct me and/or advise me on any mistakes?

Fulaing is fine.

I've not encountered "seiftigh" before, but it looks OK for "improvise." It also means something along the lines of "provide."

You have the first-person indicative there for the next one ("I adapt" rather than "adapt"). Since you're using the singular imperative mode for the others, I'd change it to Oiriúnaigh.

I'm not entirely comfortable with "sáraigh," as among other things, it can mean "rape/ravish." Perhaps someone can come up with something better for overcoming obstacles.

Cinn doesn't work by itself for "advance" (as in make progress). Usually a phrase would be used for that: Dul chun cinn.

What would be a correct term for 'Overcome' ?

I'm sorta thingking about just going with, Endure, Improvise, Adapt, Advance. Basically, I want it written as a personal 'to do' list, so I just want to make sure the meaning(s) and syntax is correct before I go getting perminant ink. But intend to get this tattoo in the next couple of days - so any further input on this would be GREATLY appreciated !

I actually had a brain-dead moment when I mentioned "dul chun cinn." I used the verbal noun (for some reason I always want to do that with this particular verb...I don't know why!). As an imperative, it should be:

Teigh chun cinn

This definitely needs more eyes on it, folks! I already nearly made one major error in confusing the verbal noun with the imperative!

Téigh chun cinn – (advance – make progress/move forward)

Going by the usage on Pota Focal, I don't think the use of sáraigh to mean "rape" is the first thing that comes to mind. How do you feel about sáraigh, a Bhríd? An alternative might be cloígh but I think sáraigh is closer in meaning here.

Téigh ar aghaidh is another possibility for "advance".

Wow the dictionary has a lot of definitions I never heard of. But the above meaning is the only one I'm familiar with.
