The Pulse of My Heart.

Hello folks,

I was hoping to get a proper translation to Gaelic for a tattoo:

I am hoping for either "My children are the pulse of my heart" or "My daughters are the pulse of my heart" or even "My girls are the pulse of my heart."

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is iad mo pháistí cuisle mo chroí: My children are the pulse of my heart

Is iad m'iníonacha cuisle mo chroí: My daughters are the pulse of my heart

Personally, I'd avoid "girls," as the most common word for "girl" in Irish can also mean "girlfriend." "Daughters" is less ambiguous.

Do wait for more input, corrections, etc.

Wouldn't you want to use the genitive there, Patrick?

I did - the genitive plural. Clann iníon is a phrase found in Munster literature. Clann mhac, clann iníon.

Iníon is clearly an older genitive plural, as it is not the same as the nominative plural iníonacha - and possibly in the CO or other dialects they will make the genitive plural identical to the npl. The same can be said for the genitive plurals in beirt driothár and beirt drifiúr (not *beirt driotháracha or *beirt drifiúracha).

and make it: is é cuisle mo chroí (iad) m'iníonacha

Not everyone would want a "rud" in there

But in any case Verb Predicate Subject means iníonacha goes last?

Most likely...copula statements aren't my strong suit. I think I'd go with "iad."

That's why we need more eyes, however. Standard rule: three in agreement for a tattoo.

I would say "siad" instead of "is iad", but I'm not sure if you can write it that way.
