I know I'm not Irish myself, so I probably don't have much of a say in the matter, but I think it's kinda rude to mock people's requests.
I can't say I agree with those who want a tattoo or engraving in a language they don't speak or understand. But at least they come here to get a correct translation, instead of using some rubbish generated by google translate.

Jaybee, we all know where you stand on this stuff. Will you let it go? I hope you are as active out in the 'real' world promoting Irish as you are for mocking some people here in the virtual world who show an interest in it. If this was an English language forum, we would have the same diversity of opinion, but it wouldn't matter as that language is in a position of strength. Our numbers are much smaller and so it is much more important that we stand and work together.

If you want to vent frustration, Lá Mór na Gaeilge i mBaile Átha Cliath on Saturday is the place to be for anyone around this neck of the woods with a genuine interest in the language and language rights. They are going for a carnival atmosphere I believe with music from Gaoth Dobhair and face painting and stuff. Bí linn!

But that's not how visitors to this forum are going to read your comments...in fact, it's not how forum regulars are reading your comments. Frankly, you're coming across as rude and snarky.

If you don't want to offer translations for tattoos or engravings, that's your right. Many of us here have learned a lot over the years by doing so, but if you don't want to participate in that aspect of the forum, you don't have to. Just please stop being a jerk about it.

Where are all these tattoos that people tell us with great seriousness are so important to them?

I recall having a site where I would sometimes link to IGTF and Daltaí  and people would ask for pronunciations and translations. 80% of the time after uploading the sound sample or gif, NOONE would download them.

So much for 'it was so important to my grandfather' etc Well I hope he died a painful death and the same people scrape 'I'm a gobshite' /'is amadán mé' onto their foreheads with a knife.

That would make a nice tattoo, wouldn't it?

PS, if you think I'm going too far, I recall the person who came onto IGTF saying their family member, a police officer had been shot and wanted something to remember them by. I didn't believe it, so me and another member (I think) went looking for the downed officer in the Bostin news and records. There was no one shot. Just some sicko
