I am writing a book, and I am looking for an old hunting prayer that would have been said in the early to mid 1700's. Something that would have been said either before or during a hunting attempt. Doesn't need to be of great length, a bit simpler is preferred, but my library doesn't seem to offer anything on Gaelic Prayers If a translation could be included as well, that would be fantastic!

Also, I am trying to find the Gaelic word for SEARCHING, as in searching for someone.

If anyone can be of any help that would be fantastic, and I would give writers credit as well for helping me!

You'll find stuff like that in Carmina Gadelica, some of the books have been digitalized and put on line, search it with Google. It's bilingual Scottish Gaelic & English.

Technically, Scottish Gaelic (like Irish) does not have present participles like "searching". However, it does have a verbal noun form which can serve essentially the same purpose, and a' rannsaich would do that for "searching".

I'm not aware of a prayer designed specifically for hunting, but the first four lines of the following traditional prayer might serve for your purposes:

Gum bi am beathachadh an t-saoghail agad
Gum bi an t-soilleireachd an t-solais agad
Gum bi an sruthadh a’chuain agad
Gum bi an dìon nan sinnsir agad
‘s gum bi thu adhlaichte anns a’ chiste-laighe
dèanta às fiodh an daraich a bhios ceud bliadhna a dh’aois
gum bi mi a’ plannteachadh a-màireach

May the nourishment of the earth be yours
May the clarity of the light be yours
May the flowing of the ocean be yours
May the protection of the ancestors be yours
and may you be buried in a casket
made from the wood of the oak that will be 100 years old
which I shall be planting tomorrow.
