Hello friends. I am new to this forum and would like some advice. I am going to get a tattoo to honor my family's Irish heritage and would like the Irish version of "carpe diem". Or an Irish saying or proverb that would have similar meaning. Is there something that an Irishman would say to envoke an inspiration to go out and "seize the day"?

Tapaigh do dheis. = Seize your opportunity.

Another version I've seen is tapaigh an deis, which is a bit closer (literally. anyway) to the Latin/English versions.

This is probably completely unnecessary, but I would like to mention that these translations assume an audience of one, aka YOU
If for some strange reason you meant your tattoo not to be directed at you, but instead to a perceived plural audience, you would instead use tapaígí instead of tapaigh

I think we all would agree that the plural is not a good choice, but as always the choice is yours

Thank you so much for your help! I think I may go with something different for my tat. I will research more phrases that might work better for my situation. (I'm currently getting chemo to treat my cancer.) Maybe a war cry that an old Irish Celtic warrior might shout as he goes forward into battle! Any suggestions or ideas are always welcome. Thank you.

Ar aghaidh liom! = On I go! or Forward with me!
if you wished to pluralise that, like that warrior would, then:
Ar aghaidh linn! = Onward with us! Forward!

Ar aghaidh leat! = saying the same to one individual

Ar aghaidh libh! = saying the same to more than one individual

Thank you Braoin. I think the "Ar aghaidh leat!" may be more correct for my situation since the battle is between me (singular) and Cancer (the enemy). I may start a new forum topic to address this issue. Your comments are appreciated and welcome. Thank you.
