A chairde,

I'm having some trouble pronouncing the second conjugation future endings (-eoidh/-óidh) in the Connacht dialect. Would somebody mind spelling it out phonetically for me? I am having trouble finding it online or in my books.

Go raibh maith agaibh,

Bridget

-eoidh/-óidh = both are pronounced as "ó"
faidh/fidh = a bit like "eh"

Is the pronunciation the same before pronouns (mé, tú, sé...) and before nouns (an fear, Seán...) ?
In Donegal and Munster it's not the same pronunciation...

In north Connacht óidh/eoidh is /o:/ before pronouns but /o:j/ in all other cases. For example:

In "ceannóidh mé/tú/sé/sí "srl the ending is pronounced as if it were just ó.
In "ceannóidh an fear/Máire/na gasúir "srl. it's pronounced as if it were ó with a y sound after it/

An gceannóidh tú? /o:/
Ceannóidh /o:j/
