I am reading Academy Street by Irish writer Mary Costello.

The mother picked up an egg from incubator, held it up to the window-light to check birdie. As she did not see it, she said to her daughter:
"No birdie here, sweetheart, no birdie here. This one’s a glugger."

I tried to find meaning of 'glugger'. In the below link they say it is a glug:

Unfortunately, I still do not understand what sort of connection between the sound of pouring water from a bottle (a glug) and an egg without birdie?

Anyone please help me out.

Thanks for your help. I tried but could not find any Hiberno-English dictionary on any format.

All I did was to 'google' the word glugger and it turns up on the relevant page in the book. Voilà c'est tout.
