My name is Vanessa and I'm from Germany. I'm a great fan of Ireland and the irish language. Because of that I want to have a part of this beautiful language tattooed on my arm.

So I better not try to translate it by myself, it would be impossible.

I would like to have the sentence "nothing is true; everything is permitted" translated into irish. In German we say " Nichts ist wahr, alles ist erlaubt". Very easy.
(It's the Creed from the game Assassin's Creed)


I have found this: "Ní dhéanfaidh aon ní fíor, tá gach rud ceadaithe"
" Níl tada fíor, ceadaítear gach rud' "
"Tá faic fíor, tá sac rud ceadaite"

They all said that they're native speakers but I'm very confused now... I hope it is possible to translate this.

There's no simple word for "nothing" in Irish.
(Es gibt nicht einfach ein Wort für "nichts" in Irisch.)
All words used for "nothing" have to be used in a negative sentence.
(Alle Wörter, die für "nichts" verwendet werden, müssen in einem verneinten Satz stehen.)
In a positive sentence they mean something else or are impossible, so "Tá faic fíor" doesn't mean "Nothing is true" but "A whack is true".
(In einem nicht-verneinten Satz meinen sie etwas anderes oder sind völlig unmöglich, z.B. "Tá faic fíor" bedeutet nicht "Nichts ist wahr", sondern "Ein Schlag ist wahr")

So, your translation must begin with ní ... (not ...) or níl ... (not is)
(Daher muss deine Übersetzung mit "ní ..." (nicht ...) oder níl ... (nicht ist ...) beginnen.)

• Níl tada fíor = Nothing is true (literally: Not is a iota/whit true)
• Níl faic fíor = Nothing is true (literally: Not is a whack true)

You could say as well:
(Man kann genauso gut sagen:)

• Níl aon rud fior = Nothing is true (lit.: Not is one thing true)
• Níl aon ní fíor = Nothing is true (lit.: Not is one thing true)
• Níl rud ar bith fíor = Nothing is true (lit.: Not is thing on earth true)
• Níl a dhath fíor = Nothing is true (lit.: Not is its colour true)

There are probably some more variants.

For the second part:

ceadaigh = permit, allow (German: erlauben).
gach rud = everything (lit.: "jedes Ding" in German)
("sac rud" in your translations is a mistake, "gach" written in old Irish typface looks like "sac" because a "g "resembles an s-form and "ch" was witten "ċ")

There are different ways to render sentences as "is permitted":
(Es gibt versch. Möglichkeiten, "ist erlaubt" auszudrücken:)

• Tá gach rud ceadaithe = Everything is permitted (lit.: Is every thing permitted, so it's a quite near the "original")

But you could say as well:
(Aber man kann genauso gut sagen:)

• Ceadítear gach rud = Everything is permitted (lit.: One permits every thing, German: Man erlaubt alles)

I guess I understood... So there are many different ways to express the meaning of one sentence. Irish grammar is so difficult.
How can I write the phrase so that it is completely right?

You can combine anyone of these:

• Níl tada fíor,
• Níl faic fíor,
• Níl aon rud fior, *
• Níl aon ní fíor,
• Níl rud ar bith fíor,
• Níl a dhath fíor,

with anyone of those:

• tá gach rud ceadaithe.*
• ceadítear gach rud.

*) I'd recommend them.

I don't think anybody would recommend "ceadítear" .
