Looking for a translation for something similar to "wandering thoughts" or a more colloquial phrase that is similar. Anything including wandering and stories or thoughts would work.

so some possibilities for just "wandering thoughts" might be:
smaointe ar seachrán
or
smaointe ar an bhfán

Smaointe fánacha - a common expression, which the dictionary translates as "stray thoughts". Fánach(a) = "wandering, stray(ing), migratory, random, aimless, casual etc., etc. according to context.
