When someone is trying to dip their toes in the water of learning 'news-type' vocabulary, I think the headlines on tg4.ie can be a good way to do it. They generally have a few short snippets - nothing too daunting. If anyone would like to translate one or more of the following for practice, feel free. If there is an interest, we can add to it as more news items emerge. Alternatively, if nobody shows an interest, we will let the thread fall away into the ether!

◾Tá Gardaí atá ag fiosrú faoi bhás fhear 31 bliain a thit amach as doras cúil an chairr ina raibh sé ina paisinéir inti, ag iarraidh an carr sin a aimsiú anois. Bhuail carr eile a bhí ag dul an bóthar in aice le Cill Díoma i gCo Luimní an fear agus bhásaigh sé.

◾Dúirt Príomh-Aire na hÚcráine Arseniy Yatsenyuk go bhfuil an Rúis ag saighdeadh Chív dhul i mbun comhraic.

◾Fograíodh ag Cruinniú Chinn Bhliana Chonradh na hÉireann de Chomhair Chreidmheasa go mbeidh an eagraíocht ag tairiscint árachais gluaisteán ar-líne dá gcuid ball.

The Prime Minister of the Ukraine, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, said that Russia is inciting Kiev into conflict.

Just to clarify, the thumbs up is for the translation, not that there is a threat of World War 3! 8O

Bainfidh mé triall as uimhir a h-aon:
Police (Gardaí)who are investigating the death of a 31 year old man who fell out the back door of a car in which he was a passenger, are now trying to find that car. Another car which was traveling the road near Kildima in County Limerick hit the man and killed him.

You have the gist of it.

I think bhásaigh sé is intended to mean "he died", but of course fuair sé bás is the proper way to say that. "He was killed" would be maraíodh é.

That is to say, your translation is perfect but there is a mistake in the original. :darklaugh:

An nuacht inniu:

É iarrtha ag Feisire Eorpach de chuid an Lucht Oibre ar an Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore éirí as mar cheannaire ar an bpáirtí.

Ar a laghad 17 duine maraithe ag tornádóanna sna Stáit Aontaithe.

Beagnach chúig chéad post le cruthú i mBéal Feirste ag an gcomhlacht cuntasaíochta EY.

1. Tá an chéad cheann roinnt beag mearbhlach, dar liomsa - cé hé "É"? Seo an miniú atá agamsa air":
É requested by the European Representative of the Labor Party for the Deputy Prime Minister to resign as leader of the party

2. At least 17 people killed by tornadoes in the United States.

3. Almost five hundred jobs to be created in Belfast by the accounting company Ernest-Young

1. Chím gur fhág mé amach ainm an Tánaiste. Ba cheart dom a rá:

É requested by the European Representative of the Labor Party for the Deputy Prime Minister Éamon Gilmore to resign as leader of the party.

It looks like they are all missing verbs.
They are headlines rather than sentences I think.

I think it should read - TÁ sÉ iarrtha ag Feisire Eorpach de chuid an Lucht Oibre ar an Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore éirí as mar cheannaire ar an bpáirtí.

Actually I'd say - "D'iarr an Feisire......"
