Tá ceist agam.

On pg 45 of Ó bhéal an bhab she says
Éibhlín Ní shé ab ainm di siúd. and Mícheál Ó guithín ab ainm do san.

My questions are, why did she use siúd in the first sentence, I wrote in my notes that it means that, with an implication of distance and time , so is it Éibhlín Ní shé was her name (but it was a long time ago she died)

Then with ab ainm do san, does it mean the name that was on him ? is it past tense only.
As in can you say Is ainm do san ?

Basically yes. Siúd can also have the meaning "aforementioned". It is súd after a broad consonant.

Yeah, it's just because it is past tense.

In the first paragraph note that ceann or díon is used for the roof of a house, but almost always ceann when describing the make of the roof: ceann tuí tatch roof, ceann slinne slate roof.

Daithí, I started notes on Ó Bhéal an Bhab and didn't finish them, but I've started writing them again now, so hopefully they will be some help. The notes for Cearc an Phrompa are to be found in my section of the forum.
