Irish is less finicky about distinguishing between "need" and "want". English "want" originally meant "lack".
For "necessity", you can use
gá:
Má tá gá leis "If it is necessary"
Más gá é "If need be"
Tá gá lena dhéanamh "I needs to be done."
Ní gá dhuit é a dhéanamh. "You don't need to do it."
Ní gá an oiread sin. "(We/You) don't need that many/much."
Or
tá sé orm or
caithfidh:
Tá orm é a dhéanamh. "I must/need to do it."
Caithfidh mé a dhéanamh. "I have to/need to do it."
