I was wondering about an Irish version of 'couch potato'. I looked in a few dictionaries for it specifically. I didn't expect to find it. Then on www.focal.ie I found 'sámhaí'. Does anyone know if this word is in common usage? I am sometimes afraid of picking a word/term and using it only to find that that isn't really what people say. Interestingly, focal.ie also gave 'gunna sámhaithe' = 'tranquilizing gun'! I haven't had the occasion to need that yet! 8-)

sámhaí -- I haven't heard that word. But it sounds like a good one for couch patato. Coming from "sámh" relaxed/peaceful.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.
