From An tOileánach:

* .i. Ní h-ionann san.

Is this m-ionann san a typo, or does it have origins elsewhere? I don't know what the ellided m- could be. Any help would be appretiated.

'it was easy enough to hold him now, however it had been when he floored him in his flight'

m’ionann = murab ionann = unlike, I'd guess

Níor dheacair dó í choimeád san am so m(urab) ionann san is an t‑am a thug sí a thriopall in áirde agus í ag imeacht

"It was not hard for him to hold her (= an mhuc) now, unlike when she upended him as she went away."

There are 3 other "m’ionann" sentences in this book*:
  • Bhíodh flea agus féasta ar gach pósadh an uair úd, m’ionann san agus anois.
  • Níor dheacair do dhuine bhocht bróg agus smut tobac do sholáthar an uair úd, m’ionann san agus an t-am go bhfuilim ag breacadh an pháipéir seo.
  • Ach do bhí tuairisc mhaith, mar is giorra cabhair Dé ná an doras, agus do thugamair dóibh é go sultmhar, m’ionann san agus fear an mheigill do bhí amuigh seachtain roimis sin ná raibh i mbun aon tuairisc fónta do thabhairt uaidh.

*At least in the 1929 edition acc. to corpas.focloir.ie (in other online editions like Wikisource they are missing). I find them, too, in the version edited by Seán Ó Coileáin.

S. Ó Coileáin mentions "m’ionann" along with other pecularities in his introduction to An tOileánach but without explanation:

Quote:
Ach cad is gá a bheith leis? An saothar féin an ní, agus tiocfaidh an léitheoir isteach go tapaidh ar an gcaint agus ar an gcur chuige. Ná níor cheart go gcuirfeadh seoraí beaga mar iad so aon mhoill air: a d’rér (143,157,273), do dh’réir (70), dá d(h)’réir (977,132,191), don d’réir sin (292); a d’fhonn (106,199); i dtiontaoibh le (80,151)37; m’ionann san agus/is (96,130,308)*; dá bar(b) seachas dá mba agus fén mar seachas fé mar tríd síos.

* (the fourth m’ionann at page 245)
