Hi, everyone! I'm brand new to Irish Gaelic, but I'm really looking forward to learning. I have a couple of books (Routledge's Basic Irish) and the Colloquial Irish set with CDs, but I know I'll be posting about pronunciation, probably a lot. It seems so daunting right now... :panic:
I'm American, residing for many years now in Belgium, and I'm a translator by trade.

So glad this forum exists!

Fáilte,

There are loads of resources available for pronunciation. There is a resource list here on the forum and if your interested in a particular dialect just ask and people will be glad to help.

I find the forum invaluable :)

Is mise Bob Kaucher. Tá mé naoi mbliain agus tríocha… beagnach i mo dhaichidí. Is innealtóir bogearraí mé agus tá mé i mo chónaí in Cincinnati, Ohio – Rugadh agus tógadh mé. Rinne mé staidéir ar an teanga nuair a bhí mé i dtús na bhfichidí ach ní raibh mórán rudaí do foghlaimeoirí Ghaeilge ar fáil ar an idirlíon ansin. Bhuel, tá mé ag foghlaim Gaeilge arís agus tá sé i bhfad níos éasca anois le TG4 7rl. Sin é! Cén chaoi a bhfuil sibh?

Go raibh maith 'ad, a Jay Bee. Is breá liom casadh le daoine nua agus a bheith ag "caint" i nGaeilge aríst.

Hello everyone,

I am Kim, 22 years old, from Germany. I want to learn the Irish Language after finishing my studies, then I will have enough time to learn. Maybe some of you know places / schools in Germany to learn irish?

I went to Ireland two years ago and I absolutely fell in love with it!

I am looking forward to having some nice conversations with you all! :-)

Kim

Hi im Sandra I am trying to learn Irish to speak Irish fluently. I learnt in school but have not used it since then. I am struggling as to where to start. I have downloaded a few courses and I am surprised at what I do remember. Any tips would be great - thanks.

Hi Sandra. Tá fáilte romhat. If you have a ciorcal comhrá near you, I suggest you try that out. If your aim is to speak it fluently, then you need to find people to speak it with. There are opportunities all over the country (if you are based in Ireland) - you just have to seek them out. You might find something on this list: http://gaeilge2013.ie/en/about/learning ... al-groups/

Hi Thanks for your reply. I work in Dublin 2 and I just noticed there is a Ciorcal Comhrá on Kildare Street so I will pop over on my lunch tomorrow and check it out. I am learning slowly. Going back to basics really. I did read somewhere that trying to understand a whole sentence at first is not too important and even if I can pick up one or two words from the sentence that will be a start. Im excited about learning.
