Ack! Meant for this to go in the intro forum. Sorry! Off to an inauspicious start it seems.
Not a bother! You're not the first and certainly won't be the last!

(Hope you don't mind being moved to where you wanted to go. Saoirse.)

Welcome aboard, Sam!

Irish and English are completely unrelated (other than both being European languages). Irish is from the Celtic family of languages, and is much, much older than English (which is a Germanic languages).

Both languages use the same Latin alphabet (with the exception of a few letters and diacritic marks), so not sure what you mean by "Gaelic when written in English."

Nevermind! This is a great place to learn a lot, with lots of friendly people to help you along!

Yeah I see on the language tree that proto Celtic and German don't even share the same branch of info European languages, and have nothing in common. And what I mean by English is actually what you said, Latin alphabet. I also see that the celts predates the Germanic tribes in Western Europe by thousands if years potentially. And as to you Redwolf, I've been watching you help people out with Irish for a long time because everytime I google for an Irish translation, you're very often the one to be translating! So it's quite a pleasure to meet you, so to speak.
