I assume that most learners of Cork Irish have already come accross these links, but I thought it would be worth sharing anyways. His pronunciation seams so be very over-emphasised, especially in that his vowels are quite consistent in their pronunciation, which is very rarely true of casually spoken Irish (if that makes any sense whatsoever). Other than that I haven't much to say about this at the moment.

Thank you. Those recordings are in perfect Irish of course. It is a terrible terrible shame that no more is available - the Irish certainly made the least possible of the resources they had in the early part of the 20th century. The fact that no recording is available of Amhlaoibh Ó Loingsigh, and many of the recordings of Peig are by the BBC shows you the underlying dynamic.

David, have you heard the recordings of Amhlaoibh Ó Loingsigh on Doegen.ie? Here is his imformation listed on the website:

Those are too brief. I meant the loss of the recordings of Seanchas Amhlaoibh and Scéalaíocht Amhlaoibh, which were recorded but taped over or something like that very early on.

Doegen also has Pádraig Ó Crualaoi and some other Muskerry natives.

The recordings of PUL were made by Rudolf Trebitsch, an Austrian ethnologist.

There are some other Irish recordings by him. But the quality is rather poor:

I'm a few days late, but do appreciate the links, grma. I have been missing audio sources like these, aside from the doegen and canúint websites.

The Aesop translation would be a handy addition to my reading material now that I think about it...
