In Cnósach Focal ó Bhaile Bhúirne p68 there is this: déanfaimid cosaint an bhruic orainn hén. Does this mean we will stop dirt/filth getting on us?

In Peadar Ua Laoghaire's Sermons (Seanmóin is Trí Fichid) there is this:
Quote:
An bhfuil aon amadán ar an dtalamh so is mó 'ná an Críosdaidhe go bhfuil an gheallamhaint sin aige agus 'n-a diaigh san a bheidh ag déanamh cosaint an bhruic air féin a d'iaraidh gan maitheamhnachas a thabhairt ó chroídhe d'á chómharsain!

I see the explanation is given at https://www.gaois.ie/en/idioms/4744618/
Defending yourself like a badger against every foe. Maybe "fighting tooth and nail"?

Professor Webb, is your old blog email 'foghlamthoir' still valid?
I just registered so I don't have messaging or attachment privileges yet.

I'm about to start studying Munster Irish next week and was looking through the RIA corpus interface but found it unnavigable. So I made myself a spreadsheet with additional data (dialect, wordcount) for sorting; wikipedia-link for authors; and URLs for scraping.
Do you want a copy? Maybe others in the forum would find it useful.

I'm not a professor. If I were, I wouldn't be posting queries on Irish like the subject of this thread, would I?

My foghlamthoir@gmail.com address is still working.

Yes, I would say the closest English is "to fight like a cornered rat".
