I'm looking for an Irish phrase which corresponds to the English "to catch up with someone" as in to talk to someone you haven't seen in a while. All the phrases I found in the dictionary refer to catching up with someone while walking etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? Grma
I am still not sure that I understand the English idiom well enough
but de Bhaldraithe’s dictionary supplies a direct translation (3) for "to catch up with s.o." in whatever meaning:
https://www.teanglann.ie/ga/eid/catch_upQuote:
catch up,
v.tr. 1 Beirim ar, fostaím (rud). We were caught up in this wave of enthusiasm, scuab an taom dúthrachta seo leis sinn.
2 To catch s.o. up (in a speech), breith gearr ar dhuine,
3 (Overtake) To catch s.o. up, v.i. to catch up with s.o., teacht suas le duine, coinneáil le duine, breith ar dhuine.
The intended meaning (talk to s.o.) isn’t to be found here:
