How do you know that's right? Was it by the eeny, meeny, miney, mo method?

er … Maybe he bought the 1961 version of "Teach Yourself Irish" and worked his way through it without skipping the exercises. :dhera:

If it makes any difference, I'm not 100% sure that an taisce i gcroí athar is right, although not being a native speaker means that my hunches are of questionable relevance to anything. My reasoning is that no one has a piece of gold or a literal piece of treasure in his heart, and so it is better to use do, to show that it can be a treasure in his heart for the father - that the father will regard it so, and not that he has a piece of jewellery in his ventricles. So An taisce chroí DON athair seems (to me, a non-native speaker with limited experience) better.

Kcastleman, I prefer this version, which comes from a native speaker and accredited translator.

=(It is) His own son (that) is the treasure/riches/wealth in a happy/fortunate father's heart

Just want to reiterate for the OP that we STRONGLY recommend getting three here in agreement on a translation before doing with anything permanent. If the tattoo is worth doing, it's worth waiting to make sure it's absolutely correct. Appointments can be rescheduled, and it's going to be on you for a very long time. Please wait and be certain it's right.
