Hello,
Could someone please help me translate this poem by WB Yeats. I'd like to use it for my wedding.
Many thanks
"HAD I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with the golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams beneath your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams..."
Poetry is normally better left in the original language, especially something as complicated as Yeats.
This is neither poetic, nor correct, but it might give people ideas of where better to take it.
Dá mbeadh éadaí fuáilte na bhflaitheas agam,
fite fuaite le solas óir geal,
An t-éadach gorm, doiléir agus dorcha,
éadach an oíche, an lae, agus an cróntráth.
Scarfainn na h-éadaí faoi do chosa,
mar mar dhuine bocht níl agam ach mo chuid aislingí.
Tá mo chuid aislingí scartha faoi do chosa;
Siúil go headtrom mar tá tú ag siúl ar mo chuid aislingí.
