I'm interested in learning onomatopoeia in Irish, especially those associated with people rather than animals. For example, how would you say "ouch!" or "knock!-knock!".

Words like ouch and ow are interjections or exclamations rather than onomatapœia, but this might make a fun thread for people to contribute to.

Here are a few fuaimfhoclaíochta (onomatpœia) to start you off....

Siosóg - hiss or rustle
Tic teaic - tick tock
Pléasc - bang
Hurlamaboc; Hulach halach; Holam halam - hulabaloo, commotion


and some intriachtaí (interjections)

Á - ah
É - eh or hey
Há - aha
Hóra - hi
Habha - ho
Ó - oh
Hois; Huis - shoo
Hoips - oops
